3. The Water Gate

Nasimiyu was a Maasai shepherdess who lived in Kenya with her large family. She had 12 children and 48 grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was a devout Christian who prayed every day. She worked hard to take care of her sheep and goats, as well as her household chores. She never complained or asked for anything more than what she had.
She was happy with her simple life, but she also had many adventures and challenges along the way. She had faced droughts and floods, predators and poachers, diseases and accidents. She had seen beautiful landscapes and wildlife, met different people and cultures, learned new skills and languages. She had laughed and cried, celebrated and mourned, loved and lost.
She was proud of her heritage and traditions, but she also respected others’ beliefs and values. She was kind and generous to everyone she met, always ready to help or share. She was wise and brave, always willing to learn or face difficulties.
She lived a long and fulfilling life, but one day she fell ill with cancer. She knew it was her time to go, so she gathered her family around her and said goodbye to them. She thanked them for their love and support, and asked them to continue living well and happily. She told them not to worry about her, because she was going to a better place.
She closed her eyes and breathed her last breath.
She opened her eyes again and found herself in a bright and spacious room.
She saw several beings dressed in white robes standing near each gate. They had wings on their backs and halos on their heads. They smiled at her warmly.
“Welcome to the antechamber of heaven,” one of them said.
“Heaven?” Nasimiyu asked.
“Yes,” another one said.
“Where is God?” Nasimiyu asked.
“There is no God here,” the first one said.
Nasimiyu was shocked by this answer.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“This is not the heaven that you hear about from books or movies,” the second one said. “This is a different kind of heaven.”
The angels explained to Nasimiyu that this was a heaven where people could become angels after they died, living in harmony and freedom. They said that this was a heaven where angels voted directly on important matters, without intermediaries or delegations, secretly. They said that this was a heaven where everyone had a voice and a choice.
They also explained to Nasimiyu that the antechamber of heaven had four gates. They said that one of the gates was the fire gate, where the sinful people were sent to purgatory. They said that the good-hearted people could choose from the other three gates.
They said that if someone chose the air gate, they would feel a wave of energy and joy. They said that after that, they would have wings and a halo, and they would become an angel. They said that the angel would be able to communicate with their loved ones and other people who were still on earth, but only in their dreams.
They said that if someone chose the water gate, they would enter nirvana. They said that nirvana was a state of peace and bliss, where there was no suffering or desire. They said that in nirvana, there was no self or other, no past or future, no birth or death.
They said that if someone chose the earth gate, they would start a new life in a new body. They said that they would reincarnate. They said that in their new life, they would not remember their previous life.
They said that if someone chose the air gate and became an angel, they could return to the four-gate room at any time and choose again from the gates.
They told Nasimiyu that she lived a pure and meaningful life, so she could enter heaven if she wanted, but she could also choose reincarnation or nirvana.
Nasimiyu was amazed by all this information. She had many questions and doubts, but she also felt curious and hopeful.
She asked the angels what nirvana was.
The angels told her that nirvana was a state of peace and bliss, where there was no suffering or desire. They told her that in nirvana, there was no self or other, no past or future, no birth or death.
Nasimiyu thought about this for a while. She wondered what it would be like to experience such a state.
She decided to choose nirvana. She felt a strong attraction to the water gate. She thanked the angels for their guidance and walked towards the gate.
As she approached the gate, she felt a cool breeze on her face and heard a gentle sound of flowing water. She touched the gate and felt a wet sensation on her fingers. She pushed the gate open and saw a bright light.
She stepped into the light and felt a wave of calmness and joy wash over her. She felt all her worries and fears melt away. She felt all her attachments and memories fade away. She felt all her senses and thoughts dissolve away. She felt nothing but peace and bliss. She entered nirvana.
